History of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has developed in tandem with Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University. In 1975, following the Teachers College Act elevating teacher colleges to higher education institutions, the "Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences" was established, offering major programs in Thai, English, and Social Studies.

In 1992, administrative structural adjustments were made under the Rajabhat Institute Act. Subsequently, in 2000, the fine arts, performing arts, and music programs were separated to establish the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, leaving the faculty with 7 major academic programs.

To meet the growing demand for foreign languages, Japanese and Chinese programs were introduced. An academic collaboration with Yunnan Normal University (PRC) led to the official establishment of the "Chinese Language and Culture Center" on June 10, 2002, as well as a Joint Venture 2+2 Bachelor's Degree Program in Tourism and Hospitality Industry Management.

Furthermore, new progressive programs were launched: Cultural Management (2004), Hotel and Lodging Management and Geography & Geo-Informatics (2005), Social Innovation Management (2007), and Information Management (2008).

The Faculty opened the Local Government program in 2011, incorporated the Master of Political Science Program (Public and Private Management) in 2016, and launched the Master of Arts in Tourism and Hospitality Management in 2017, scaling the faculty to a total of 15 degree programs (13 undergraduate and 2 postgraduate programs).

In alignment with the University Council’s policy to foster lifelong learning and academic specialization, specialized programs were transferred to establish 3 new colleges: College of Hospitality Industry Management, College of Communication Arts, and College of Politics and Governance. This strategic transition empowers the Faculty to focus intensively on core Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines.
